Hands-On Azure Labs: Building Redundant Cloud Solutions

Lab 2: Deploy vNet-West and Subnet-West

Lab Overview

In this lab, you will deploy your first Azure Virtual Network (vNet) in the West US region (vNet-West), along with a custom subnet (Subnet-West). Virtual Networks provide isolation and control of network traffic, forming the backbone for secure communication among your Azure resources. You will learn how to plan address spaces, create subnets, and prepare the environment for the virtual machines you’ll deploy later.

Learning Objectives

By completing this lab, you will be able to:

    • Create a virtual network with a suitable address space (CIDR block).
    • Define and configure a custom subnet for more granular traffic management.
    • Understand how virtual networks form the basis for resource communication and isolation.
    • Lay the groundwork for a scalable network architecture in the West US region.

Exam Relevance

The skills you learn in this lab map to the following Azure certification objectives:

    • AZ-104 (Azure Administrator): Covers core networking concepts, including vNet creation, subnet configurations, and Azure best practices.
    • AZ-305 (Azure Solutions Architect): Reinforces design considerations for IP addressing and secure, scalable network layouts in Azure.
