Lab Overview

SAM provides over 250 out-of-the-box application monitor templates to choose from. These templates are designed to help you monitor business-critical applications efficiently, and you can use them as they are, or make copies to adjust settings and modify component monitors according to your needs.

The “Windows Server 2019 Services and Counters” template includes several key component monitors, including “Total Available Memory”, “Disk Queue Length”, and several other monitors that can be used to keep an eye on the health of the Windows operating system on your servers.

Autoscaling Metrics

Host metrics: CPU, memory, disk (no agent needed).
Guest metrics: Custom counters (Azure Diagnostics Extension).
App Insights: Application-level performance metrics.
Rules: Min/max capacity, scale-out/in thresholds, cooldown periods.

Autoscale rules use metrics from Load Balancer, Diagnostics, or App Insights.

Fault domains: 1–3 per zone for best-effort resilience.

Use availability zones for datacenter-level failure protection.
