Hands-On Azure Labs: Building Redundant Cloud Solutions

Lab 27: Create and Configure Traffic Manager Profile

Lab Overview

In this lab, you will create an Azure Traffic Manager profile, which intelligently directs user traffic to the best-performing or closest endpoint—helping to optimize speed, performance, and availability. By mapping the profile to your LB-West and LB-East public endpoints, you’ll ensure a globally distributed web application that automatically routes around regional outages or latency issues.

Learning Objectives

    • Create a new Traffic Manager profile in Azure.
    • Configure endpoint monitoring to check availability and performance.
    • Understand different routing methods (Performance, Priority, Weighted) and choose one for your use case.
    • Prepare your multi-region application for further global DNS integration.

Exam Relevance

    • AZ-104 (Azure Administrator): Demonstrates ability to manage Azure networking and traffic distribution services.
    • AZ-305 (Azure Solutions Architect): Reinforces the design of high availability and geo-distributed architectures, ensuring optimal user experience worldwide.
