Hands-On Azure Labs: Building Redundant Cloud Solutions

Lab 28: Test Azure Traffic Manager

Lab Overview

In this lab, you will validate how Azure Traffic Manager behaves by simulating various failover and load scenarios. You will observe Traffic Manager’s routing logic in action—ensuring requests are sent to the active, healthy region and confirming that if one region becomes unavailable, traffic is seamlessly redirected to the other region.

Learning Objectives

    • Send test requests to your Traffic Manager DNS name or custom domain.
    • Verify that Traffic Manager correctly routes requests to healthy endpoints.
    • Simulate a failure (e.g., by stopping a VM or load balancer) and confirm automatic failover.
    • Confirm that users maintain access to the application even during regional disruptions.

Exam Relevance

    • AZ-104 (Azure Administrator): Validates proficiency in monitoring and troubleshooting Azure networking services, including Traffic Manager.
    • AZ-305 (Azure Solutions Architect): Demonstrates your understanding of fault tolerance and business continuity practices in cloud architecture.
